The program has one main goal for each DWI defendant and that is sobriety 24 hours per day and 7 days per week. The program that is administered through the Office of the Attorney General started as a pilot program in January 2005. There are currently 67 participating agencies, including police departments, sheriff’s offices, and the Unified Judicial System. Per Court Orders or as a condition of sentencing, some participants in the program are required to test for alcohol via a portable breath test (PBT) during the morning and/or evening program hours and/or are required to submit to Urine Analysis (U/As). Other participants have the option of being fitted with SCRAM bracelet or having the vehicle they drive equipped with an ignition interlock system.
